2016 All-American Johan Correa
7th Place 800m (15/16)
Each year, Thunder athletes compete in a full season of youth track and field meets, gaining valuable experience at every level—from local 'All-Comers' meets to major championship competitions. As the season progresses, many athletes advance through qualifying rounds and earn the opportunity to compete at the USATF Junior Olympic Championships, held each year in late July. The USATF Junior Olympic Championships is one of the largest youth track and field events in the country, typically drawing more than 8,000 athletes from all 50 states. Over the years, this premier meet has showcased countless talented competitors, including many who later went on to compete at the collegiate level and even represent their countries in the Summer Olympic Games.
At the national level, performances are measured against the very best in the nation, and only the strongest athletes rise to the top. To earn All-American honors, an athlete must place in the top eight in their event and age division—an achievement that reflects exceptional skill, preparation, and the ability to perform under pressure on the sport’s biggest stage. Since 2016, Thunder athletes have reached the All-American honors podium an impressive 61 times, a milestone that highlights the program’s consistent excellence and the dedication of its athletes and coaches. This success represents years of hard work, disciplined training, and a commitment to competing with confidence and pride against the best youth athletes in the country.
